2022 OFA Youth Championships

The 2022 Ontario Fencing Youth Championships will be taking place June 25-26, 2022

What you need to know:

  • The following competition will be organized on June 26 and consists of four levels: U9, U11, U13 and U15. Please note that the U15 Epee event will take place on June 25.
  • These events will teach athletes at a young age the expectations and decorum of competition fencing.
  • The U13 and U15 will be separated into men and women events resulting in 4 events in total.
  • The U11 and U9 will be mixed up resulting in 2 events in total.
  • The format of the competition will be one round of pools with 100 per cent promotion. All competitors will be expected to know the rules of their specific events.
  • Medals will be awarded to the four top spots of the event and ribbons for 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th place.
  • No fencing for third place.

  • Foil – Huahua Fencing club
    June 26, 2022
  • Epee – Toronto Fencing Center
    June 25 (U15) & June 26 (U9 / U11 / U13)
  • Sabre – Axis Fencing
    June 26th, 2022

Foil and Sabre:
Sunday, June 26

  • 9:00 a.m. – U13 x 2 events (M/F)
  • 10:00 a.m. – U9 (mixed)
  • 1:00 p.m. – U11 (mixed)
  • 2:00 p.m. – U15 x 2 events (M/F)

Epee:
Saturday, June 25

  • 9:00 a.m. – U15 x 2 events (M/F)

Sunday, June 26

  • 9:00 a.m. – U9 (mixed)
  • 11:00 p.m. – U11 (mixed)
  • 2:00 p.m. – U13 x 2 events (M/F)

  • Foil – Huahua Fencing club

Event Fees:

  • $30 Administration Fee +
  • $30 Youth 9 (Born 2013 – 2016)
  • $30 Youth 11 (Born 2011 – 2014)
  • $30 Youth 13 (Born 2009 – 2012)
  • $30 Youth 15 (Born 2007 – 2010)
    Registrations close June 25, 2022 at 3 p.m.

Equipment

Note – Blades
U9 – size 0 – 2 blades required for Epee and Foil / Sabre – Plastic Sabre (provided by organizers)
U11 – size 0-2 blades required
U13 – no special rules regarding the maximum blade length
U15 – no special rules regarding the maximum blade length

OFA will work on a pilot project for the U9 category with the implementation of the use of the plastic Sabre for the U9 tournament. Athletes under the age of 9 will have a weapon adapted to their level of practice, in connection with the Long-Term Athlete Development. This will allow them to have a much more fun and also less risk of injury.
