OFA Events Calendar

The OFA is pleased to welcome athletes to the first tournament of the 2026/2027 season, hosted at Algonquin College in Ottawa on October 17 and 18, 2026.

Youth categories U9 through Cadet are included in the program.

Event Fees

$50 — Administration Fee
$70 — Youth 9 (Born 2018–2021)
$70 — Youth 11 (Born 2016–2019)
$70 — Youth 13 (Born 2014–2017)
$70 — Youth 15 (Born 2012–2015)
$70 — Cadet (Born 2010–2013)

License Requirements

All participants must have an active Competitive CFF/OFA Fencing License or an equivalent license from their home federation.

Canadian fencers: Must hold a valid Canadian license. Licenses may be purchased or renewed through the Canadian Fencing Federation website.
International fencers: Must present documentation confirming active membership with their home federation, or a current, active FIE license.

Important: The AC Gymnasium is located in the A Building of Algonquin College. It is not the gym located in the Jack Doyle Recreational Complex.

Event Summary

Youth Events (U9, U11, U13, U15)

U9 & U11

U9 and U11 will be combined, resulting in two total events.

One round of pools (8+ fencers)
100% promotion to Direct Elimination
OFA rankings used for pool seeding
Pool bouts: 5 points
DE bouts:
- U9 → 8 points
- U11 → 10 points
Results count toward OFA rankings

U13 & U15

Events with more than six (6) competitors will be separated by gender.

One round of pools
100% promotion
OFA rankings used for pool seeding
Pool bouts: 5 points
DE bouts: 15 points
Results count toward OFA rankings

U15 Division Split

U15 athletes will be split into two divisions for Direct Elimination.

Division sizes announced on event morning
Goal: Top 16 after pools qualify for Division 1
Results count toward OFA rankings

Cadet Events

Pools of 6 or 7
Seeding based on HPP rankings and OFA rankings
DT may adjust seeding for exceptional cases (e.g., former national team members without ranking, foreign athletes)
One round of pools
100% promotion
Events with more than 64 registrants may have a 10–20% cut if required for timing
At least 64 athletes will be promoted if more than 64 competitors are present
Cuts will be announced before the start of the event
Advancement into DE follows FIE rules
Events planned separately but may be combined if fewer than 6 registrants in one gender
If combined, both combined and separate women’s DE will be held
If events occur on separate days, later participants will be notified at least 7 days in advance and may choose to combine or receive a refund
Medals awarded to top 4
No fencing for third place
Results count toward OFA rankings

Blade Requirements

U9: Size 0–2 blades (Foil/Epee)
- Sabre: Plastic sabre provided by organizers
U11: Size 0–2 blades
U13: No blade length restrictions
U15: No blade length restrictions
