The OFA HPDP Program is excited to announce our first two clinics for the 2017-2018 season!
Clinic #1 will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018 after the completion of events at the Vango Toronto Winter Open. Details are as follows:
Title: Strength and Conditioning for Fencing – Building a Better Athlete
Location: Vango Toronto Fencing Center
Presenter: Nader Abdelkader, BSc, DC, FRCCSS
Topics Covered:
- What is it and why is it important?
- What should fencers focus on?
- Common tips and tricks from novice to elite training
- Dispelling myths and practicing evidence-based sports science
- Practical Component: how to correctly execute squats/deadlifts/pushups; strenghtening “the core”\
Clinic #2 will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 after the completion of events at the Ottawa Shield. Details are as follows:
Title: ATP (Annual Training Plan) 101
Location: RA Centre
Presenter: Paul Apsimon, ChPC, Canadian Women’s Foil Team Coach

- What is an ATP? Why do I need one?
- How to create an ATP from Scratch
- Explaining components within an ATP
- Evaluating and adapting ATPs from season to season
Details for Clinics #3 (Provincial Championships, March 9-11, Toronto) and Clinic #4 (National Championships, May 18-21, St. Catherines) will be posted as they become available, please check back here for more details! The OFA would love your input towards the clinics YOU would like to have. Please don’t hesitate to contact Maxime Brinck-Croteau (max_bc@fencingontario.ca) to provide us with your ideas.
As always, the clinics are open to all fencers in Ontario. We strongly urge OWG 2018 athletes to register. OSG coaches will be available during the season and at some of the clinics and camps. Please note that that Clinic #1 is not mandatory. Clinic #2 is only mandatory for those awaiting Quest for Gold funding approval. Videos of these clinics will also be availble to those who cannot physically attend but have registered online.
Cost:
Full program (mandatory for Quest For Gold eligibility) – $300 (increased of $50 compared to last year because we added one more training camp)
Includes access to all clinics + training camps. (training camps + 2 clinics are mandatory for QFG)

Cost per clinic: $20
Cost per training camp: $200
