Happy new year!
Thank you for all members who participated in the OFA Zoom Session Survey! It is wonderful to see so many of our members enjoying the weekly sessions for Strength and Conditioning as well as Footwork. We will continue to provide these online sessions through the new year. Please visit the new OFA Virtual Sessions Page for a consolidated list of sessions, registration information, as well as short bios on each sessions leader. This page can be found under the “Programs’ tab, as well as on the OFA home page.
The OFA is excited to announce a new addition to the weekly zoom lineup: Yoga and Fitness with Rio Olympian Eleanor Harvey! Starting this coming Friday, January 15th, at 5pm, Eleanor will lead participants through 40 minutes of flexibility and strength through Yoga, followed by 20 minutes of heart-pumping cardio!
From the age of 5, Eleanor knew she wanted to be an Olympian. She started fencing at 10 years old and realized she’d found her sport! Growing up in Hamilton, ON, Eleanor quickly and consistently topped podiums around the province, country, region, and the world, winning back to back world championship medals in 2013 and 2014, and topping the FIE Junior Women’s Foil rankings. Eleanor continued to fence in the NCAA circuit while attending The Ohio State University, earning a gold and bronze medal at the 2016 and 2017 NCAA Championships, respectively, while completing a degree in Psychology and Gender Studies and graduating Magna Cum Laude.
In 2016, Eleanor qualified for the Rio Olympics and achieved the highest-ever Olympic result in Canadian fencing history, finishing 7th. Eleanor continued to make history at the 2018 Shanghai Women’s Foil Grand Prix, becoming the first women’s foil athlete to medal at a Grand Prix event with a bronze medal.
Eleanor is now back in Canada having qualified for the 2020(ne) Tokyo Olympics with the rest of the Canadian Women’s Foil National Team. Eleanor and the team are now training full time together to prepare for the Olympics.
For over 8 years, Eleanor has loved practicing yoga for cross-training. Eleanor is excited to bring together her experience in fencing with her passion for yoga, and is looking forward to creating fun, unique classes to improve athletes’ flexibility, strength, and mental focus.
