President’s Message – 2016 Provincial Championships

President’s Message – 2016 Provincial Championships

Pre-Registration Extended to Sunday!

Our Ontario Provincial Championships are just a week away! The organizing team has done an outstanding job in putting together this excellent and memorable event. Thirty pistes (including TO2015 legacy equipment) have been set up at the RMC Anderson Field House. Three events will be held as Gala Finals and broadcast on CogecoTV on Saturday evening beginning at 5:30 at the newly renovated RMC Fencing Salle. To date, we have nearly 600 event registrations.

We have decided to extend pre-registration until Sunday evening, February 28th at 5pm to entice those who have not yet registered!

On Saturday evening, we will also be holding our second annual Gala. This event is a wonderful opportunity for us to come together as a community and celebrate our successes. Once again, we will be honouring our Quest for Gold recipients. We will also be honouring two of our oldest fencers, both from Kingston: George Clark and Lori Dunham. Our speaker this year is Paul Shull. Paul fences at Excalibur Fencing Club, and is the host of the well known television show The Weapon Hunter(Smithsonian Channel). I am looking forward to his entertaining, energetic and informative talk! I would like to invite all of you – athletes, parents, coaches, referees, friends to come support our athletes, our Association and to join us as we celebrate something that is near and dear to us all: fencing!

A few honoured guests will be on hand throughout the day: Bryan Paterson, Mayor of Kingston, and Sophie Kiwala, MPP for Kingston and the Islands and Parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport will be on site at our Gala ceremonies, and will watch our athletes in action. This will be an excellent opportunity for us as an Association to highlight our priorities and to promote the direction that we are taking, which is very much in line with the Provincial Government’s Sport Plan.
