Safe Sport is a collective responsibility to create, foster, and preserve sport environments that ensure positive, healthy, and fulfilling experiences for all individuals, without the fear of abuse, harassment, or discrimination. The Ontario Fencing Association is committed to protecting the health and safety of all participants, to ensure that fencing remains a fun and positive place to be.
A Safe Sport Environment:
- is safe, accessible, and inclusive
- provides quality programs, services, and training
- promotes strength, resilience, and self-confidence
- allows for growth and development
- ensures respect for all individuals
- encourages fair and meaningful competition
- follows open and observable interactions
- is positive and fun!
Our Safe Sport Framework
The Ontario Fencing Association’s Safe Sport framework focuses on three key elements:
Awareness, Prevention, and Action – all of which are supported by governance, policies, procedures, and best practices. The objective of this framework is to ensure all individuals have access to the resources and support services they need to safely work, compete, train, and volunteer in OFA programming.
Our Safe Sport Policies
The Ontario Fencing Association has a fundamental responsibility to protect the health, safety and well-being of individuals involved in the fencing community, and is committed to enacting strong, clear, and effective policies and procedures for preventing and addressing all forms of misconduct and maltreatment.
The Safe Sport Policy Suite is intended to promote a Safe Sport environment by communicating expected standards of behaviour, while providing processes and procedures that allow for consistent, appropriate, and meaningful action.
The Ontario Fencing Association is currently in the process of developing and approving policies to adhere to Safe Sport standards. As policies are developed and approved by our Board of Directors, they will be posted on this web page.
The Ontario Fencing Association also recognizes the importance of the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) and has formally adopted the UCCMS.
