Update #13: Step 2 to begin June 30th

The Ontario government announced last week that the province is accelerating Step 2 reopening to begin on Wednesday, June 30th, 2021.

The Ontario government also published guidelines for Step 2 – O. Reg. 263/20.  Regulations specific to facilities for indoor or outdoor sports and recreational fitness activities are outlined in Section 19, and for day camps are in Section 21.  The COVID-19 Safety Guidelines for Day Camps can be found here.

Changes that impact sports include a gathering size increase to 25 for outdoor settings, and 5 for indoor settings.  Every person participating in a fitness or exercise class must maintain a physical distance of at least three metres from every other person (19.7.4).

Additionally, indoor training space usage is open in Step 2 on a restricted basis, limited to high performance athletes as well as professional leagues.  Community centres and multi-functional facilities may have additional guidelines, and clubs who rent space from these facilities should contact their facilities manager for more details.

The OFA COVID-19 Return to Play Protocol(V7) has been updated to align with the Roadmap to Reopen Ontario – we urge all clubs and members to stay informed in order to make the right decisions for everyone as we slowly return to club activities.  Additional resources can be found on the OFA COVID-19 Return to Play Page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the OFA at web@fencingontario.ca, and/or the OFA Medical and Health Committee at medical@fencingontario.ca.

Stay safe, stay hydrated, and have a great long weekend!
