The Canadian Fencing Federation has decided to take a leadership role in creating a consistent and efficient process for acquiring criminal record checks that is accessible and affordable, regardless of where a coach or volunteer resides in Canada.
As a result of this direction, the CFF has partnered with SterlingBackcheck (SBC) to provide an online criminal record check process at a system-low price of $25, plus applicable taxes, per check. SBC’s Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) process provides a secure database to store and share results, manage renewals, and track the progress of individual checks. It does not include a Vulnerable Sector Verification (VSV).
As part of this program, the OFA recommends that all club coaches are to submit a criminal background check to the OFA Board Secretary for record-keeping (secretary@fencingontario.ca) . The use of SBC for this purpose is not obligatory but has been established to simplify and ensure a cost effective process. Clubs which have completed checks for their all coaches will be identified as compliant with this process on the OFA website. The OFA Board has approved making this background check process mandatory for all member clubs in September 2018.
