1. Coach Development Pathway
Coaches’ development will be split into four modules:
Instructor: – This module will combine the Instructor and Community levels, as their content is relatively simple. This will allow for a better use of organisational and financial resources for coaches training.
Competition – Introduction

High Performance
The English content of the Instructor module is being translated. The first training for this module is planned for April (for more details, see http://fencing.ca/event/nccp-
A training for this module has already taken place in French in Montreal in February.
The content of the Competition–Introduction and the Competition–Development modules is currently being updated. It will be completed and translated by June, in order to proceed to the delivery stage.
The delivery for the Competition–Introduction module is planned for June, and a Competition–Development module workshop is planned in August; all necessary information will soon be published on the CFF Web Site.
The High Performance module content will be defined once the first phase of coaches training is completed (February to August 2018).
2. Evaluation System for Training Modules
The evaluation system for the Competition–Introduction and the Competition–Development modules, including the evaluation plan and portfolio requirements, will soon be published on the CFF Web Site.
As an example, here is an overview of the Instructor Beginners module evaluation:
- The Making Ethical Decisions (MED) module will be evaluated online once the corresponding training has been completed.
- The coach must present a portfolio including all content indicated on the form (information about the portfolio is given during the various training).
- The coach must submit to the CFF a video showing him/her leading a fencing training session, and giving individual and group lessons, while respecting the following criteria:
– ensure a safe environment;
– give a well-structured and organized lesson;
– provide input that favours learning.
For the Instructor module, content must correspond to the yellow and orange armbands.
· As far as multi-sport training is concerned, the coaches must register with their provincial or territorial NCCP branch for the following:

· The candidate’s progression in each module is marked as follows:
In Training: the coach successfully completed a part of the required training for the context.
Trained: the coach successfully completed all required training required for the context.
Certified: the coach successfully passed all required evaluations for the context.
3. Next Workshops
· Training for the Instructor level (formerly Aide-moniteur) in Kingston (Ontario), April 6-8, and May 12-13

· Learning Facilitator Training
Learning Facilitators play a critical role, as they train competent and well-informed coaches, who can in turn coach athletes or participants in a safe and fun environment.
Dates:
– Basic training: May 22 (after the Canadian Championships)
– Contents training: May 23 (after the Canadian Championships)
The basic training is the first step to becoming a Learning Facilitator, and only needs to be attended once.
The contents training is the second step to becoming a Learning Facilitator, and it is mandatory for all coaches who wish to become Learning Facilitators.

4. CFF Armband Program
The CFF armband program is currently being revised. It was updated with the help of a group of Canadian coaches. Final revisions are still ongoing, and the updated content will be sent to all provincial associations and published on the CFF Web Site as soon as possible.

6. Equivalencies for Coaches Trained Outside Canada
Coaches who were trained outside Canada must request an equivalency to the CFF and the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC).
Procedure:
- The coach sends an equivalency request to the CFF.
- The coach submits all documents proving he/she has attained the relevant certification level (diploma and evaluation certificate).
- For fencing specific content, CFF determines the level of equivalency given to the coach.
- For multi-sport training, the equivalency must be requested through the CAC and the NCCP.
- The CFF and the CAC will study the coach’s equivalency request and give their decision.
- If deemed necessary, the CFF may ask the coach to submit a video showing him/her giving a lesson (individual and group) and leading a fencing training session, as well as submit a complete portfolio (based on the level of certification requested).
